The Tbox – Product-service system
The Tbox is a University project resulting from several months of research performed in the place of use of the product, a discount store, to uncover hidden needs and opportunities for innovation in the field of packaging to exhibit the product.
The Tbox is a cardboard box with a double functionality. It can be used to deliver products to the store and, once there, it can be converted into a fully functional and visually appealing display stand. The design idea responds to the discount supermarkets’ specific need of performing cost-cutting exercises in transport, storage and presentation of good, which often results in having a packaging that doesn’t look appealing.
During the transport stages, the Tbox functions to protect the products within. Once delivered to a retail store, an intuitive design aided by a front-facing infographic enables users to easily adjust the packaging to create an attractive display corner. The graphic of each box can be customized for each individual product, drawing a direct relationship between the packaging and the product.
Several stacked boxes can be used to create an exhibition island and attract the eyes of customers:
The T-box is composed of a single double-faced corrugated cardboard sheet, with an “A” fluted sheet (4,2 mm) glued to two flat linerboards and the 1:1 scale mock-up is produced in collaboration with the Italian company Ghelfi Ondulati S.p.A. Corporate website: www.ghelfiondulati.com
