Tourette’s Syndrome – The notebooks

Logo design for the book series “I quaderni della Sindrome di Tourette” (translated: “The notebooks of Tourette’s Syndrome”), based on the brief and needs of the client: the founder of the Italian Onlus “Associazione Sindrome di Tourette Siamo in Tanti”.

Black and white versions of logotype:

Tourette’s Syndrome is an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder with onset in childhood, characterized by multiple physical and vocal tics. Tourette’s was once considered a rare and bizarre syndrome, most often associated with the exclamation of obscene words or socially inappropriate and derogatory remarks, but this symptom is present in only a small minority of people with Tourette’s. Tourette’s is no longer considered a rare condition, but it is not always correctly identified. This is the reason why in 2007 the Italian Onlus “Associazione Sindrome di Tourette Siamo in Tanti” was founded. More information on www.sindromeditourette.it.

The logotype for the book series provides a visual representation of the Tourette’s Syndrome, as seen through the eyes of a creative mind. From this perspective, a tic is nothing more than a drop of paint accidentally dropped from artist’s paintbrush.

The colorful paint drops also highlight the so often underestimated creative side of the syndrome. As a matter of fact, Tourette’s syndrome does not negatively affect intelligence and people with Tourette’s are generally known for their creativity and inventiveness. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Molière are both known to have had Tourette’s.

The drop of paint fits perfectly into the geometric grid, adding character and movement to the logo.
